Mixed Media Abstract Painting "Invisible Matter" by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

I love astrophysics and science fiction too. I read an article on the existence of dark matter and then my imagination took over as to what might it look like if you could see it. Since most of the matter in the Universe is Invisible this is what I think it looks like. I built up layers and layers and then began to uncover some. Texture rules on this painting. The Venetian plaster mixed with pigments is burnished to a beautiful sheen.

Mixed Media Free Standing Sculpture, Abstract Art “Mother Earth“ by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

These sculptures are three dimensional paintings that are free standing and have multiple images depending on the viewing angle. This round piece is a new addition to the collection and I am planning more of various sizes. There are six layers where the waves are painted with liquid mirror and transparent blues and greens. I have drilled into the cast acrylic to make stars appear three dimensional. Interference paints are incorporated and colors shift and change depending on the viewing angle. Side B has a full moon peeking out from the layers of clouds.

Framed in a black wood floater frame. I created this painting as an intuitive exercise. I would make a line and then respond to the marks. Add some paint and react to the emotion of the color. The most important part was knowing when to stop.
