'You Wandered to Know’ is inspired by the morning view from a friend’s porch in Ute Park, New Mexico, looking north to Baldy Mountain — the highest peak on the Philmont Ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico. I loved how the light was slanting across the land, revealing the different waves of ridges, tree tops, fields. The text emerging in this painting comes from ‘The Call of the Wild,’ the epic poem by Robert Service.
